More than 4,000 performers take part in the parade, which dazzles the one million spectators with an artistic display of floats and performances.

By the time you arrive in Dublin in the midst of the week-long St. Patrick’s Day festival, you will be well accustomed to the Irish spirit, thanks to days of touring some of the country’s most scenic and stirring sights.

Sat, Mar 10: Overnight flight to Shannon, Ireland.

Sun, Mar 11: Upon arrival in Shannon in western Ireland, enjoy a welcome breakfast before driving to the stunning Cliffs of Moher, which rise 700 feet above the pounding Atlantic surf. Check in to the Bunratty Castle Hotel to refresh then visit the village of Bunratty and the Folk Park, where traditional lifestyles and crafts from different regions of Ireland are demonstrated. Tonight, take in a signature Irish experience: a medieval banquet in the 15th century Bunratty Castle with lords and ladies singing and dancing. (Meals: Breakfast, Dinner)

Mon, Mar 12: Ferry across the wide estuary of the River Shannon to Tarbert and travel to Killarney, a draw for its exquisite setting amid lakes and mountains. Take a horse-drawn jaunting car ride in Killarney National Park and enjoy a guided tour of the 19th century Muckross House. Check in to the Killarney Plaza Hotel for the next two nights and enjoy dinner at your leisure in the charming town. (B)

Tue, Mar 13: Start the day with a Ring of Kerry tour, with its coastline of high peaks and golden beaches. Enjoy some free time in Killarney and an evening of dinner, traditional entertainment and dancing the jig at Kate Kearney’s Cottage, located at the entrance to a beautiful glacial valley, the Gap of Dunloe. Wed, Mar 14: Journey to Cork to visit Blarney Castle and for an opportunity to kiss the Blarney Stone (also known as the “Stone of Eloquence”). Visit the Blarney Woolen Mills with its wide range of Irish products. Continue to Waterford City, Ireland’s oldest city and the home of fine hand-cut crystal. Tour the House of Waterford Crystal and see how traditional artisans make crystal pieces. On a guided walking tour of the old city pass the Norman stronghold of Reginald’s Tower and walk along Merchant’s Quay. Overnight at the town’s Granville Hotel. Dinner is included at the hotel this evening. (B,D)

Thu, Mar 15: Travel to Jerpoint, stopping for tea and scones and to meet a local farmer for a taste of farm life during a demonstration of sheepdogs herding their flocks at Rathbaun Farm. Also see one of Ireland’s best examples of a deserted 12th-century town, Jerpoint Park, believed to be the final resting place of St. Nicholas. Drive through the prime horse-breeding country of County Kildare and stop to visit the Irish National Stud to learn about the history and current trends of horse-breeding in Ireland. See some of the magnificent horses and walk around the spectacular Japanese Gardens. Continue on to Dublin, where the week-long St. Patrick’s Day festival will be underway! Hit the town for dinner and a lively show of storytelling, folklore and musicians at The Brazen Head, Ireland’s oldest pub. Spend three nights at the Stephen’s Green Hotel. (B,D)

Fri, Mar 16: Guided Dublin sightseeing includes Trinity College, home of the treasured Book of Kells, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a stop at Teeling Distillery, known for its hand crafted production process of Irish whiskey since 1782. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. (B)

Sat, Mar 17: Don a spot of green to watch the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The party continues after the parade in the streets and pubs around the city. (B)

Sun, Mar 18: Fly home from Dublin, returning the same day. (B)
